Glitch 3 Rack OS X

Glitch 3 OSX

This Ableton Live rack works in Live version 6 and up. Its a randomizing-fx-switching-beat-masher that can turn even the most boring static loops into continuously evolving beats. There are many macro knobs assignments to keep your fingers busy, and plenty of room for experimentation.

This rack requires Supatrigga … a free download!

Also a nice affordable ($49) replacement for either the SupaTrigga or Beatrepeat is Audio Damage’s Replicant .

Absolutely love it! Best rack ever.
Are there any ways it can fit in an audio or return track?

  2. Hi! First of all thanks for the help regarding glitch vsts. I’m a fresh mac user but i’ve been glitching around in win for a couple of years. Now i’m trying to find similar FSUs for my macbook pro. I just downloaded your glitch v.3 but i dont know where do i put this file. I have suppatriga (used to wok with it on win) but for some reason is not showing up on my Audio units / Vst folder. I would appreciate your help. Thank in advance.

ps. – Here are some of my main core vst :: FastFX, dblue, livecut, instajungle, effectrix, artillery,
I’m googleing something similar to this like ..Groos Beat, Major Malfunction…
If you can give me any info on somthing familiar to this i would be very pleased!
    Thanks in advance

  3. @ fede.caiulo: Thanks… glad you like the rack. Yes there are ways of making it audio only and there were a few adaptations some guys have done floating around on the Ableton forum. Have a look for them there. Basically all that needs to be done is take out the instruments and then place in in an audio chain. I will also try to make one up and post it for download here as it seems to be a very common question.

@ AndreGM: The Glitch file should have the extension .alp (Ableton Live Pack) on it when you unzip the file. If not, add it then double click the file. It will ask you where you’d like to install the Glitch pack… choice is yours… I install .alp’s in my projects folder but really the desktop would be ok too cause all you are really after in the pack is the rack preset file. So once you open the set and save the preset file from it your could trash all the original stuff. The reason I packed it in an “Ableton Live Pack” is because its set up in a little Ableton Project just as a quick demo of what it does. This way ensures everyone has all the samples and everything they need to hear the demo properly.

With supatrigga… are you sure you have placed the component file that came with the mac download in your components folder? If you’re unsure look in /yourhardrivename/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components… and make sure you see the SupaTrigga.component file in there. If not find the file that came with your supatrigga download and drag it to that folder. This is your audio units folder, there is also the VST folder in the Plug-Ins directory and your should see the SupaTrigga.vst in there if you expect to use supatrigga as a vst.

Sounds like you know more glitch type VST’s than I do so I’m not much help here. I use Ableton for all my glitch needs. :)

  4. I have just opened the glitch3 asl. I just cant find the presets anywhere. I can see the folder on my desktop with the presets and samples but i dont know where to put the.

When I click the hot swap tag in the glitch rack and instrments window it takes me to the instrument rack to choose pre sets but they are not there

When I click the hot swap tag in the Effets rack it takes me to the Audio Effects Rack for presets but again they are not there.

I have tried drag and drop the presets from my browser window straight into live but it will not allow me to do this.

How do i get the presets into Live ??

    • There are no “presets” as such. There is only the rack itself (which is and can be stored as a preset). Its up to you to tweak the macro knobs in the rack and make your own presets. After each tweak you make and would like to save those settings as a preset… then just hit the “save” icon in the main rack part and store the preset wherever you wish.

I have ableton 7 but when I open the glitch.als it says this project was created w/ a newer version of live? Whats goin on. Do I need operator or something unlocked? help please.

    • @ haikuzer – You don’t need operator. You only need a full registered copy of Ableton Live 7.0.14 or higher. In fact if I recall correctly (been awhile since I created the Glitch Rack) Glitch rack was created in version 6 something. So you should have no problem opening it in 7 provided its a full licensed version. If you can provide more info about your system maybe I can help more. Cheers!

Why wont Live show some of my .vst’s I cant get supatrigga or delaylama to appear in Live. There in the library/vst folder w/ the other working VST’s whats going on?

    • @ haikuzer – There could be many reasons your system isn’t recognizing supatrigga… however because I’m not the creator of either supatrigga or Live I’m not really the best person to ask for support for either product. You’re best off trying the support forums of supatrigga and Live. I will say, supatrigga is not essential to making the Glitch rack work… just delete the supatrigga device chain and away you go! The supatrigga was really only used to create a reverse effect, it can easily be replaced with any other kind of beat masher plug. Good luck!

i cant seem to drag it onto audio tracks, only midi tracks, is it only a midi FX, or am i doing something wrong. I have been using logic for 6 years, now just bougth live, and struggling a bit.
I have extracted everything, and i have the instrument rack, but i can only drag it to midi tracks.
This seems a bit lame, since its main use for me would be to glitch up audio loops, i also have supatrigga installed, everything is working fine, just wanted to know how you use glitch3 on audiotracks in live

    • The reason you can’t drag it onto audio tracks is because the rack contains two instances of Impulse which is a software instrument and can only be placed on midi tracks. If you drag the rack to a midi track, delete the section of the rack that contains the Impulses, then save that as a new preset you will be able to put that on an audio track cause it no longer requires the midi input… just audio. Hope that helps! I will try to do an updated version of this rack soon which will also include an audio version. Cheers!

hey, thanks a lot for this stuff. unfortunately, the supatrigga site seems to be ofline, any ideas where else to get it from?

    • No sorry, I’ve been looking for an alternative download site and can’t find one. I’d suggest to keep checking back with smartelectronix site to see if it comes online again soon. If not just remove that section of the rack… its not really necessary. It was only used to create a “record” stop or reverse effect.

  9. Would love to try but I cannot even find the download button. :)
